even better, it seems the -Refresh isn't needed at all. This will auto-run if the esx node sees a new vmfs datastore or a new storage device is initialized.
The biggest usage of these scripts is for not-powershell users that have to do something fast. Just add the functionality in scripts and let them use these.

I've rewritten the script so that it now has an argument option. I'll post that instead of the current.

I think you can just Get-VMHost | Get-VMHostStorage -RescanAllHba -RescanVmfs -Refresh and it will be faster.

I've never tried it with the -Refresh at same time as the rescans, I know the rescans will work by themselves, so it's worth a try.

Hi Frederik, for the record, i was in your vmware VCP3.5 class a few months ago (the big guy together with the loud-mouth solaris admin ;).
I've the open-vm-tools build in jaunty running in two servers now and they are working like a charm. However it would indeed be nice if the vmware-tools would work out of the box :D

First of all, thank you for linking my site !
For some reason, i didn't receive your mail, the link is fixed now.

I will test the open-vm-tools version in Jaunty again, i hope you're right because the method i described is not very beginners-friendly :)
Yesterday the new version of VMWare Workstation is available for download, following the changelog the vmware tools provided there should be working out-of-the-box, i'll going to test that also.

unfortunatly you're right but i cannot find any new link. I've mailed Frederik about it but i didn't get a reply yet.
But i would recommend to upgrade your sources to jaunty and aptitude install open-vm-tools. No X required and working perfectly.

Cheers,

Marcel
